North Carolina Tobacco-free schools bill update

Bill would ban tobacco at schools

July 9, 2007
RALEIGH — No more smoking in the boys’ room. That’s the way it will be if the tobacco-free schools bill passes.

If signed by the governor a bill passed in the General Assembly would mean the end of tobacco products, at any time, on school premises.

This extends to other locations hosting school-sponsored events.

Some parents think tobacco-free for the entire campus is going a little too far.

Parent Matthew Collins said, “I think there should actually be a mandatory site to where if someone wants to smoke a cigarette at football games or on campus such as any sporting event that there should be a designated area for that.”

The bill will become law if and when the governor signs it.
