What is Vaping
Vaping is the mere act of inhaling vapor, which is either produced by a vape pen or a vaporizer. The vapor that you inhale can be made of a number of materials like concentrate, dry herb or the most common, e-liquid.
The first e-cigarette was actually created by a Chinese pharmacist, Hon Lik in 2003. But the first vape pen to enter in the United States markets was in 2006.
For the last couple of years, vaping industry is growing on a rapid pace and the main reason behind it is that vaping offers a healthy alternative to tobacco smoking. The interesting bit is that 21% of the smokers in the United States also do vaping with smoking.
Myths surrounding Vaping
A recent research, which was conducted by Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, Greece in the year 2013 showcased the effects of vape pens and tobacco cigarettes on arteries. The results of research showed that whilst smoking tobacco cigarettes does result in the stiffening of arteries, electronic cigarettes do not affect arteries in any way.
The reason why tobacco cigarettes are dangerous to health is that they have cancer-causing agent called tar. Tar consists of of more than 70 carcinogens and is produced when the tobacco in cigarettes is burnt. E-cigs do not have any tar. They merely have regulated amount of nicotine. Thereof, vaping can never cause cancer in its users and is not harmful to the body
Main Parts of a Vape Pen
The main parts of a vape pen are:
Battery:
The most crucial part of an electronic cigarette provides power to the vape pen.
Coils:
Small pieces of wire are shaped in a coil, you can know more about vape coils here. It is responsible for converting e-liquid into vapor.
Wick:
A wick can be made of a number of materials like cotton, stainless steel, twisted silica cord, ceramic, etc. It delivers e liquid from the tank to the coil.
Main Components of an E-liquid
No vaping beginner’s guide can be complete without mentioning the components of an e-liquid. In contrast to what people think, e liquid is not a mysterious liquid. Typically, e liquids constitute of four components: vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol, nicotine and flavorings.
Vegetable glycerine
Vegetable glycerine of VG is a diluting agent, used to thicken the consistency of e liquid. VG is made with vegetable plants such as soy, coconut oil or palm. A pure VG is that is odorless and colorless. Its taste is a bit sweet.
E liquids with high dose of VG result in denser clouds. Professional vapers go for e liquids with high levels of VG.
Propylene glycol
Propylene glycol or PG is also a diluent. People who are chain smokers and are habitual of throat hit like to have e liquids with high level of PG.
E liquids that have high amount of PG are not much thick and the clouds formed as a result are neither big either. Although PG is labelled safe and non-toxic by FDA, some individuals develop sensitivity to PG still.
Flavorings
Evident by the name, flavorings are used to add taste or flavor to an e-liquid, you will find many flavor in vape juices from fruits, salty, Psycho to whipped vapes Juices. When you purchase an e liquid and it has a chocolate or lime taste, it is due to the flavorings component of e-liquid.
