NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) – Indiana authorities are regaining control of a medium-security men’s prison after a two-hour riot staged by inmates.
Officials say two staff members were injured and fires were set during the disturbance.
The perimeter of the facility, at New Castle, is secured and no inmates were able to escape. The prison is located about 40 miles east of Indianapolis.
The prison, built in 2002, can house about 22-hundred inmates. It currently has about one-thousand prisoners from Indiana and 630 from Arizona.
In March, Arizona and Indiana reached an agreement on housing up to 1,260 Arizona inmates. An official says some of them are angry about being moved and don’t like different policies, including a ban on smoking.
