Powdered alcohol approved, will hit shelves soon

A controversial new form of powdered alcohol has been approved for sale, becoming the first product of its kind in America. Palcohol was originally approved by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau last spring, but that decision was reversed after some edgy marketing on the company website.
But now, Palcohol seems set to be available as early as this summer. Although, as reported by CBS News, individual states have the right to control what is sold within their borders and some of them – including Colorado – are already working on legislation to prevent its sale there.
“Nothing even close to this has ever been on the market in the past in the U.S. or ever,” attorney Robert Lehrman told CBS. “Underage drinking is a big concern when it comes to powdered alcohol. I do think parents and teachers – this will probably get their attention in a big way.”
Opponents of Palcohol have issues with a few perceived risks: the potential ease to sneak it into shows or concerts, the attractiveness to children because of its bright colors and multiple flavors and the lack of experience people will have when trying to measure out a safe amount.
For someone who sees a pile of powder and automatically reaches for a straw, Palcohol creator Mark Phillips says they won’t repeat it with his stuff, “Very painful. It burns. A lot.” Phillips made a video to rebuff all the criticisms and concerns about his product after the ruling was reversed last spring – you can see it below.
