Richard Carmona
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“Carmona is also adamantly opposed to tobacco smoking, and has stated more than once that he wants all tobacco sales and consumption prohibited nationwide.”

Surgeon General Carmona. He is a prohibitionist.

There is a statement from Carmona on there about banning tobacco. He is just another radical. Here is another radical quote he made about childhood obesity being like the terrorist threat.

Even C. Everett Koop, surgeon general in the 1980’s, has said that had he had another tenure in office he would have fought obesity like tobacco.
Wow, I guess we would have had government to tell us what to eat and would have been paying 60% excise taxes on a box of cereal.

It’s the second coming!

July 6, 2006
By Dave Pickrell

It’s the second coming! No I am not talking about the return of the beloved Jesus Christ, I’m talking about the figure-head leader of public health. America’s Surgeon General Richard Carmona.

It is the one and the same that testified before Congress in 2003 that tobacco in all forms should be made illegal. I think we know which side of the bread his butter is on. He comes out with a big report that states no new evidence of the harms of tobacco, the same harms that have been debated since the mid 1950’s in one form or another, and all of a sudden the debate is over?
Much to the delight of anti-smokers, where ever they may be found, their savior has come talking in terms of authority, as if from god’s mouth with all his wisdom and truth. With in days of this reports release, my hometown newspaper put on page 1 how “indisputable” this report is and based on that the city should be made “smoke-free”. It will be proposed this fall by city leaders.
I haven’t seen hype like this since the 1993 EPA report on passive smoking. What are smokers going to do?
The hype that comes with health scares is something we are all familiar with. What we are not familiar with is being told the truth about the hype and what is designed to do towards shaping public policy.
Consider the following essay titles by a current but concerned anti-smoker “Anti-smoking advocates have no interest in even discussing the science; The agenda cannot be challenged” or “Tobacco control movement starting to decline as public can’t differentiate legitimate from far-fetched claims” and “Anti-smoking groups still make completely fallacious claims about secondhand smoke; No evidence that they care about scientific integrity”.
These are not my words. They came from Michael Siegel, a public health tobacco control professional from Boston. His blog where you can read more is at: http://tobaccoanalysis.blogspot.com/
What are his thoughts on the Surgeon Generals report? “I am less than convinced that the report has any significance. If we’re going to make up our health claims in order to sensationalize them, then who cares what the actual scientific evidence shows?”
What “The debate is over” really means is; if you don’t agree, shut up! The debate is closed and fixed to create the outcomes anti-smokers desire. There is no room for outsiders. Outsiders are the actual people effected by the anti-smoking rules. Smokers.

The S.G.’s report is in fact a disgrace to the office and an insult to the intelligence of the American public.
What it appears they have done is take all the studies of the past 20 years and compiled them in a way that smacks of the META survey that was done by the EPA and later trashed by Judge Osteen as being deliberately misleading and nothing more than an attempt to harm the legal business activities of the tobacco industry. Furthermore, it would appear the S.G. totally ignored the findings of the WHO that showed no significant effect of SHS on people who had a closer than arms length relationship with smokers. The Who report also stated that adult children, coming from two parent smoking families, had a 22% better chance of never developing lung cancer as opposed to adult children coming from non smoking families.

Before the SmokerNazis in the country get too excited about the new Surgeon General’s report on the alleged “dangers” of secondhhand smoke, consider this:
An article in today’s Washington Post states, “The report does not present new scientific data but is an analysis of the best research on secondhand smoke. It said, for instance, that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated last year that exposure to secondhand smoke kills more than 3,000 nonsmokers from lung cancer, approximately 46,000 from coronary heart disease, and as many as 430 newborns from sudden infant death syndrome.”
1. This is just another “analysis” of cherry-picked, biased studies (i.e., paid for and/or written by anti-smoker activists, according to the bibliography), and not any new, unbiased scientific research.
2. Nowhere in this report (or any other document) does it state how the 3,000 figure is obtained although this number is touted throughout the anti-smoker industry in every press release they write as if it was gospel. Yet, it is not supported by the name of one … just ONE … person whose death certificate or coroner’s report states categorically that the person died from being around secondhand smoke. What are they hiding? The truth? Yes.
3. Coronary heart disease is found in the huge majority of patients whose family medical history is rife with such disease. Neither smoking nor secondhand smoke is genetic, but heart disease is.
4. The SIDS Foundation has told the anti-smoker industry countless times to stop stating that secondhand smoke causes SIDS deaths, because that claim is not supported in any study, and yet the industry continues to defy the Foundation and continue lying about it.
As for the Surgeon General himself, the Wikipedia encyclopedia quotes Richard Carmona as stating that he is “… adamantly opposed to tobacco smoking and he has stated more than once that he wants all tobacco sales and consumption prohibited nationwide.”
Carmona doesn’t have a personal agenda by releasing this super-biased report, does he? No, of course not! His motives are pure as the driven snow. He’ll go after all you Fatties and Alkies next!

The Surgeon General’s Report: selective science at it again
By David W. Kuneman. The antismoking activists must be gleeful that the new Surgeon General’s report prepared at taxpayer’s expense follows their previous successful approach of duping the public by selectively considering only evidence supporting the conclusion that secondhand smoke is a health risk. It is obvious the Surgeon General’s office did not do their own research, yet represents these findings as their own.

What ever shreds of respect I had left for government representatives, doctors and heath officials has practically been eliminated, after reading the Surgeon General’s attempt to reproduce a compilation of unsubstantiated scientific claims from the Tobacco Control cults and call it a report. Adolph Hitler would be enthusiastically applauding this resurrection of Third Reich fanatical policies in the USA and rest of the world. What truly incites me is health control’s belief that enough stupidity exists in our world, where anyone with a brain could even seriously consider this compilation of unproven theories as a serious document. If a paper like this “report” were submitted in a university, the student would be flunked for lack of originality and faulty logic. When I was growing up, I was reprimanded with statements like “If all the other kids jumped off a high rise building, would you want to jump off also?
Be a leader not a follower!” What has happened to our so called leaders? Maybe their parents forgot to tell them that Follow-the-Leader is not a game to play as an adult either.
I’m about ready to say, “Make tobacco illegal”. Quit pussy-footing around! It’s never hurt marijuana trade and will reduce the current cost of cigarettes if they become a black market commodity. I’d like to see all those government employees’ faces, living on tax payer payrolls, when the tax dollars from tobacco dry up. Smokers will find ways around this prohibition too, which will eliminate the double-speak of bans Vs astronomical users’ taxes, and I want to watch all the tax hikes on soup-to-nuts (for the entire population this time) that follow.
Without smokers, it will be fun to watch corrupt local, state and federal governments beg for money. Smokers, as the persecuted minority, are capable of collapsing the US economy if smoking is banned. Come on, heath control! .I dare you to make smoking illegal and create the 21st century’s tobacco prohibition that will also go down in the historical records of infamy. It’s time smokers called the Anti smoking cartels’ bluff. Maybe then all the omniscient health control gurus can finally pay attention to really finding ways to reduce deaths from malaria, AIDS, cancer and all those other “little” diseases that have taken a back seat to tobacco control for over thirty years.

I read the synopsis of the second hand smoke report on the website. Frankly, these Surgeon General Reports are about 90% political and maybe 10% health.
They are put out by socialist leftists. I mean, come on, “There is good evidence that comprehensive smoking bans, such as those in New York City and Boston, don’t economically hurt the hospitality industry.” Get real! “Workplace smoking restrictions not only reduce secondhand smoke but also discourage active smoking by employees.”
Do these people really know anything about the smoking issue? What about the info. from Ireland, New Zealand, and Washington state that smoking rates are actually up?
It’s funny to me that there is “no safe level of secondhand smoke exposure,” though none of the federally regulated dangerous chemicals in tobacco smoke individually rise to levels that the federal government considers dangerous. Funny isn’t it?
– Professor J. Richards

It seems so very odd, however that there still is not one death certificate to back any of these death claims. This era of “second hand smoke” bantering has been going on for at least 20 years. That is the only proof that will win the argument for the antismoking side and they simply cannot produce one….because none exist.

This should be an easy one for them. So far, nothing. We hear of this 53K number (or whatever the current number has been reduced to) and it is difficult for this death certificate to be produced. Really, it should be quite easy with those “53K per year” to choose from.

Just something to keep in mind concerning the current SG “Carmona is a longtime smoking opponent who, during congressional testimony in 2003, endorsed banning tobacco products.”

“Nonsmokers need protection through the restriction of smoking in public places and workplaces and by a voluntary adherence to policies at home, particularly to eliminate exposures of children,” he wrote.

Voluntary adherence to “policies” …..at home…hmmm… Now I wonder how long this privacy issue will stand…? The home once again being mentioned….hmmm….

This is definitely a warning concerning the next step of the antismoking agenda.

I foresee that a scandal will be uncovered concerning the matter of the SGs report that will resolve the issue once and for all.

“But it’s the surgeon general!! How can you say such a thing!!”

Quite easily. This current administration is so corrupt and the dam will break. It always does concerning corrupt administrations.

If we could go back to the Watergate days, I think a good many people would totally forgive Nixon in comparison to what is happening now……. from all sides of the coin…conservative, liberal, pseudo-conservative, pseudo-liberal, etc…

If this death certificate can be produced, I will listen. Until that time, this is just some more propaganda. This is the most high level media propaganda to this date, but without the death certificate to back it, that’s still all it is.

The “voluntary” thing concerning private homes, however is not.
This is where every US citizens’ focus should be right now, not on the antismokers just getting in a little gloat for the day.

Here’s my initial analysis of the recently announced Surgen Generals report on ETS:

Forward: (part of the Executve Summary file)
“…. Besides reducing exposure of nonsmokers to secondhand smoke, these policies reduce tobacco use by smokers and change public attitudes about tobacco use from acceptable to unacceptable. …..” Julie Louise Gerberding, M.D., M.P.H. Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

This reveals the real reason for the Surgeon Generals report on ETS. The percentage of the population that smokes (22%) has not been going down. No one is quitting. No one is using these cessation plans. Need more force and guilt.

Chapter 10 – Control of Secondhand Smoke Exposure
Conclusions:
8. In the United States, the home is now becoming the predominant location for exposure of children and adults to secondhand smoke.

“overall implications” section (last paragraph)
On the basis of this review, it is clear that banning smoking from the workplace is the only effective way to ensure that exposures are not occurring. Despite reductions in workplace smoking, significant worker safety issues remain that only smoking bans can address. The home remains the most serious venue for secondhand smoke exposure.

Regulating smoking in homes is next.
– JrS

It looks like the smoking ban fanatics are pushing for the “full meal” social engineering-quit smoking deal, here in North America. At the federal level.

The unethical and unfounded scientific conclusions that ETS exposure levels must be no more than “absolute zero” are completely absurd and blatantly dishonest.

It will be very interesting to see if the Canadian and American federal governments act on the Surgeon Generals specious” report” and if they do, how fast will the wheels turn?

This is pretty scary stuff with possible horrible ramifications for smokers, the private hospitality industry, and families and friends of smokers.

In essence what the latest fear and loathing propaganda unleashed by the U.S. S.G. is doing is painting smokers as bad, selfish humans who are now willfully endangering the lives of “innocent” non-smokers and children by continuing to smoke tobacco.

Smoking around innocent non-smokers and children even in outdoor areas will now constitute assault and attempted murder in the eyes of some anti-smoking radicals.

There will be violence committed by both sides against one another in regards to the issue of smoking and second-hand smoke. The pros and the cons will end up declaring war on one another.

The intolerant, anti-smoking radicals will attempt to seize the S.G.’s report as a form of intolerance and use it as a means to empower the bigotry and hatred.

Someone with money must challenge this report in a federal Supreme Court of law, soon. The tobacco companies are again backing away from the fight.

What really irks me the most beyond the fraudulent science and hate propaganda that this latest anti-smoking volley directs at smokers and smoking… True denormalization… Modern day “leper” status… is that these lying Antis can only come up with one ETS “victim.” Canada’s “Heather Crowe.” The ONLY “ETS victim” in all of North America, with a name and a face! And no one really knows how she got cancer!

The most burning question is, will federal politicians now push for national 100% indoor smoking bans en masse? It would also appear the intent of the S.G.’s report is also to mandate outdoor and in-home smoking bans, as well.

Maybe they should just ban tobacco products and pay for everyone’s smoking cessation. If that is, ETS is such a potentially “deadly” airborne toxin.

The truth is not on the side of the anti-smoking army and their slobbering minions. The ETS health sham is one of the greatest hoaxes in the history of mankind.

Zero tolerance, my a ss…
Zero scientific credibility… is more like it.
A bunch of Nicotine-nannies who hate the smell of burning tobacco and who want it banned everywhere that they might tread.

Will anyone have the resolve and financial resources to challenge the anti-smoking liars and their junk science in a supreme court of law?

Cheers,
Craig

Let’s take a 350 cubic inch V-8 engine running at 1000 rpm in a four cycle engine. Every other revolution, it’s putting out exhaust. Do the math: 350 (cubic inches) times 1000 (rpm) divided by 2 = 175,000 cubic inches. What’s that in cubic feet? One cubic foot = 12 inches X 12 inches X 12 inches = 1728 cubic inches. 175,000 /1728 = 101 cubic feet.
That 350 CID engine is putting out 101 cubic feet of smoke per minute.
As I look at my cigarette smoke, I wonder what all the fuss is about.

I think I’ll take this bomb shelter that JFK told me to make (my government wouldn’t lie to me, would it?) and convert it to a smoking bunker.

USA: 2006 Surgeon General’s Report on Secondhand Smoke.

Does the Surgeon General’s Report Really Matter? By Michael Siegel. I am less than convinced that the report has any significance. If we’re going to make up our health claims in order to sensationalize them, then who cares what the actual scientific evidence shows?

The science is not in. By Jacob Sullum. Whether secondhand smoke is a health hazard or merely a nuisance, people who want to avoid it can do so by avoiding businesses that allow smoking. A free society that respects diversity should make room for people with different preferences.

Surgeon General’s Communications Misrepresent Findings of Report… By Michael Siegel. One can say that there is no safe level of exposure to any carcinogen. There is no safe level of exposure to car exhaust…

Did Carmona Read His Own Report? By Jacob Sullum. There is absolutely no evidence to support this claim.

Anti smokers get the figurative finger. America becomes a joke on the world stage.
