USA PM USA will test market a smoke-free and spit-free tobacco pouch product, called Taboka, designed especially for adult smokers interested in smokeless tobacco alternatives to smoking.

Research and Development
Philip Morris USA announced this month (21 November) that they are opening a new US$350 million research and development (R&D;) facility to be focused on “reduced risk tobacco products” as noted by reporter Angel Abcede of CSP Daily News:

Dr. Rick Solana, Senior Vice President of Research and Technology at Philip Morris USA, “said that the new resources will allow scientists and engineers to focus on two things: ‘reduced risk and products that are viable for the company.’”
Philip Morris USA already has several reduced risk tobacco products such as Marlboro snus (“snoose”) and Taboka (both are smokeless tobacco) which seek to replicate the harm reduction benefits that we have seen in Sweden via similar products. Overall this R&D; investment represents a significant endorsement of “tobacco harm reduction/relative risk” concept which we discuss at this bulletin board so we look forward to hearing more about their research.
