– To the editor,
Chickasha Police Department are not arresting dangerous criminals, instead they like to handcuff sixteen year olds and take them to jail, fingerprint them and put them into the system for possession of tobacco.
My Son was stopped for speeding, and because he had a can of Skoal in the cupholder, the police officer took him out of the truck, handcuffed him, in front of his 12 year old brother and 14 year old sister.
They were extremely upset and scared when they called me. Now my son was put in the back of a cop car, humiliated not only in front of his siblings, but his peers as well. He was very polite and well mannered, did not speak back to the officer or act ugly in anyway.
Please tell me how as a community, we have sunk so low as to start arresting teens for tobacco.
Warn them of the dangers, lecture them, write them a misdemeanor ticket and let them go home, do not waste tax payers money to haul him into the police station and fingerprint him over tobacco.
What’s next, are we going to go to the high school and bus every kid with tobacco in their possession to jail? It is hard enough keeping kids away from dangerous drugs, and keeping them from drinking alcohol, but instead of looking for people that are doing drugs and other harder crimes, our police department would rather arrest teenagers for tobacco and feel they have made our community much safer with the big arrest for the day.
Very Impressive, I must say.
