Lansing – There’s a new push to enact statewide legislation against second-hand smoke in the workplace, restaurants and bars.
Wednesday morning the tobacco free partners gathered community leaders and healthcare workers together to share their findings on several surveys conducted in West Michigan and the state.
One statistic on second-hand smoke found that 69% of Grand Rapids voters are in favor of a state law or local ordinance prohibiting smoking in public places.
According to a new surgeon general’s report second-hand smoke is one of the main contributors to health problems in non-smokers.

“We’re the ones who know best, not some legislator in an office in Lansing,” says Andy Deloney, spokesman for the state’s restaurant association.
