Public-smoking opponents want complete ban in LC

Lake Charles officials have started to realize that Ray Miller, the city’s newest and most vocal advocate for a complete ban on smoking in public places, isn’t going away anytime soon.
Miller attends virtually every Lake Charles City Council meeting. He typically has only one question:
“Are y’all going to amend the city’s Clean Air Act?”
The city attorney’s office is reviewing the current smoking ordinance. Miller was told that he would be informed if and when a decision is made to amend the law. Until that happens, Miller is committed to staying the course. He believes lives will be saved.
“I have nothing against people who smoke,” he said. “They just don’t have the right to harm others.”
Miller wants the city to ban smoking in all public places. State law currently allows smoking in businesses where alcohol or cigarettes are sold, such as bars and restaurants.
