Italian beach bans men, kids, fried food

RIMINI, Italy, July 3 A beach on the Italian Adriatic coast has been designated a “no-men” zone in an effort to protect female bathers from unwanted male attention.
Dubbed “Pink Beach,” the restricted seaside area was created to give female visitors a relaxing environment where they can swim, sunbathe and enjoy exercise and beauty classes, without the intrusion of pesky would-be suitors, ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” reported Tuesday.
“We run away from Italian men,” said Tiziana Andreoletti. “They are such a drag.”
Children, loud disco music and fattening fried food have also been banned from the section of coastline linking Rimini to Riccione.
“It’s a simple idea,” beach owner Fausto Ravaglio told “Good Morning America.” “We have given the women their own world.”
Ravaglio admitted in a separate interview that one male will be permitted past the beach’s pink, prominently displayed “No Men” sign.
“The lifeguard must be a man,” Ravaglio said to the U.S. broadcaster. “You clearly need a man to save women in the sea. It’s a question of muscles.”
