GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — A proposed smoking ban may be amended to allow bar patrons to keep on lighting up, a town official said.
In its current form, the ordinance would ban smoking in restaurants and businesses but allow smoking in private clubs. The council gave preliminary approval last month to the ban, which comes before the council again April 17.
“I am expecting that the ordinance will be amended to exempt bars,” said Everett Thomas, president of the city council in the city of about 31,000, about 20 miles southeast of South Bend.
Denny Yoder, owner of Oasis, a tavern and restaurant, believes the ban would be bad for business. “They’re not going to come over here if they are smokers,” he said.
