Unfortunately, 6 out of our 11 Assembly members are sponsoring this proposal. 2 of the 6 were at least asking questions during the testimony, so hopefully one of them will rethink their position. The majority of testimony was against the ban. We Alaskans have always prided ourselved in how unique we are. We always say “we don’t give a damn how they do it outside” (meaning the lower 48 states).

It’s the talking point of the day: whether or not cigarette smokers can light up in their favorite bars. The Anchorage Assembly met Tuesday night to address this issue, but because there was overwhelming public comment, a decision has not been made.
