While Marriott Hotels has earned kudos for its recent Smoking Ban amongst health nuts and social-smoking employee wives, but the backlash from smokers still continues.
Luckily for those addicted to the butts, USA Today reports that other hotel chains are still going to accommodate smokers. Extended Stay Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Group, Hilton and Hyatt Hotels are some such chains.
And today we got another piece of mail in our inbox, slamming Marriott for the ban which they think might have something to do with…religion? So before everyone goes all Mel Gibson on this whole thing we figured it was time to declare this a HotelChatter OpenThread. Let’s move the whole smoking debate into the comments area attached to this story. Comment away. Discuss amongst yourselves, be passionate, be informative, and fear not we will be constantly checking this thread to see where things stand. Oh, and if you want to read the email quote that kicked this thread off, it is posted unedited after the jump.

Subject: Non-accommodation for smokers
Comments: I’ve just read about your decision to completely ban smoking at all of your hotels. I find this quite disturbing that a “hospitality” business would deny hospitality to consumers that you would find unfavorable. I will no longer patronize your facilities, just as I will not patronize Westin Hotels, because of their identical policy. All the reasons you give for this in your press release are inexcusable. What is transparent is, that you are merely playing a public relations game with the powers that be. With a new front on politically correct behavior , will the obese soon become the next group of consumers that you deny “hospitality to? Their lifestyle is also coming under attack, I’m sure that they will be social outcasts just as smokers have been made. If you feel that alienating 25% of the population along with their families and friends is of no concern then continue with your policy.

Reply to Marriott’s form letter reply:
Unlike current government officials who can’t seem to grasp the concept of
private ownership any more, I respect your right, as a privately owned
business, to set your own policies, but must question your definition of
‘hospitality’. As someone who smokes, I understand that my preferences as
your customer and guest are no longer your concern. I don’t go where I am
not welcome and will not be using your hotels. Please don’t bother me with
future emails. Remove my email address from your list.

CWA Says Marriott Should Stop Blowing Smoke About Porn
Stacey Holliday
Concerned Women for America (CWA) says that if the Marriott hotels care so much about their customers, as indicated in their recent decision to ban smoking from hotel rooms, they should stop offering hard-core porn in their hotel rooms.
