Slash defies smoking ban

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has said that he is ready to flaunt the U.K. smoking ban.

The former Guns N’ Roses star was recently involved in an investigation following a Velvet Revolver show in Wales recently after lighting a cigarette onstage.

The whole of the U.K. is now covered by a smoking ban in places of work after a new law came into force in England yesterday (July 1).

Speaking to NME.com, Slash said, said: “It’s what I do–unless I giving up smoking altogether, which I don’t see happening. I’ll probably just take my chances, pay the 50 pounds, and smoke to my heart’s content. I can’t imagine being up there and playing for 90 minutes and not having a fag.”

Day Of Defiance! Update. Bars ignore ban July 1, 2007. Live report from The Swan pub, Churchgate, Bolton, Lancashire.
Tony Blows who owns the Dog Inn at Ewyas Harold, found his pub at the centre of international media frenzy this weekend because his customers continued to smoke despite the ban.
Joe Jackson: Attention Smokers! Don’t stop the party. “Smokers need to know the true facts. The more we know, the better we can fight back. Do not allow yourself to be bullied. Do not apologise to anyone. On the contrary, explain to people why you’re a victim of unjust discrimination. You are enjoying a legal pleasure with a long and honourable history, and you’re contributing ?10 billion a year to your country in tax revenue. Be proud.

SLASH: ‘I Won’t Let Any Smoking Ban Bother Me!’

June 12, 2007

Former GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Slash has hit back at the prospect of a paltry ?50 fine for breaking Wales’s smoking ban.

Slash was last night facing being one of the first in Wales to be prosecuted for breaking the ban — which came into effect a month ago — after lighting up at a Cardiff International Arena gig.

But it seems Slash isn’t in the least worried about the prospect of a fine, after telling Wales on Sunday: “I won’t let any smoking ban bother me!”

The infamous star — famed for playing his guitar with a ciggie dangling from his mouth — and his VELVET REVOLVER band mates were seen puffing away on stage during their only Welsh date in the capital last Thursday.

But when told of the law which declares that all enclosed public places in Wales are smoke-free zones in an interview with Wales on Sunday a week prior to the show, the Los Angeles wildman explained that it “didn’t worry him.”

But the incident has now sparked an investigation by Cardiff City Council into whether any law has in fact been broken.

And if it does, then it could make 41-year-old Stoke-on-Trent born Slash — real name Saul Hudson — the first to be prosecuted for breaching the ban since it came into place on April 2.

SLASH BREAKS SMOKING BAN?

2007-06-09

VELVET REVOLVER guitarist SLASH has been caught breaking a smoking ban in Wales by lighting up on stage during a concert in the capital Cardiff.

The rocker and his bandmate Scott Weiland smoked cigarettes during Thursday’s (07Jun07) gig at the Cardiff International Arena.

A spokeswoman for Cardiff council vowed to investigate the incident, saying, “The no-smoking ban seems to be operating well in Cardiff so we are disappointed to hear that there may have been an incident of someone smoking on the stage at the CIA.

“We have yet to receive any formal complaints but we will be investigating the matter and arranging to meet with the management of the CIA urgently to explain that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable as well as seeking assurances that this will not happen again.”
