The Des Moines Park and Recreation Board today unanimously approved a recommendation to ban smoking in and around parks near schools and other parks facilities, as well as at city-sponsored events and youth activities.
The board’s recommendation will go to the City Council on July 9, and the new rules could go into effect as soon as September.
