Smoking Issue Centers on Control, not Health
LAKE BLUFF, Ill. I concur with Michael McFadden, who wrote the letter, “In search of victims of secondhand smoke”.
I also would like to see June Herman of the North Dakota chapter of the American Heart Association, author of the letter on the same page, “Workers’ health can’t be walled off,” produce statements from just 10 individual bar employees that they support a total smoking ban in Grand Forks.
As the majority of bar workers smoke and their incomes depend to a large extent upon the smoking public, I would just once like to see the opinions of those really affected.
I do not believe these bans are about health. They are about control, as well as the erosion of the rights of private property and free choice.
You may also question why an Illinois reader is concerned with bar workers in Grand Forks. The answer is that what happens in North Dakota also directly affects the fate of Illinois bar workers.
