If state Senator Charles E. Shannon has his way, you could be smoking in bars again soon. A Shannon-sponsored bill would suspend the statewide ban for bars that generate less than 10 percent of their income from food.
 
Shannon spokesman Sean J. Fitzgerald said the senator is seeking a compromise for bar owners who were seriously hurt by loss of revenue from the ban. A similar bill failed to pass last year.
